Number 7: The Cranberries Dreams
Hey, remember the Cranberries? Group of Irish Sinead O'Connor wannabes (who wound up kicking O'Connor's arse, musically speaking)? They sunk into the subconscoius soundtrack of everyday life back in 1993 with Dreams. There were three versions of this video made, one of which had a horse in it, but I can't find that one so HERE:
Number Six: Anne Bourne Blue Ballet
Number Five: Moody Blues Your Wildest Dreams
This song is on the list because I haven't heard it in ages. It originally came out in 1986.
Because the best remembered dreams are the ones about mysterious lovers. A hit for singer-songwriter Bobby Darin 1959, it still is a welcome earworm in the blasted war zone of pop music.
Number Three: Roy Orbison
You can't talk about dreams and music without including the late, great Roy Orbison, who wrote several songs about dreams. This one, the most popular, always makes me think of chocolate chip cookies now because it was used in a hotel chain advert that offered free cookies to guests.
Number 2: The Eurythmics Sweet Dreams
Be honest -- this was the whole reason you clicked onto this blog post, wasn't it? Here, Annie Lennox makes sweet dreams come true by opening up her golden throat.
Number One: Peter Gabriel Red Rain
Written and performed by Peter Gabriel (the guy this blog is named after) Red Rain was about a haunting dream he had about a storm, people shaped as bottles getting smashed by the waves of a red, red sea. I had to give PG the number one slot as his back to Front tour kicks off tonight in Quebec.
